The curriculum for our preschool program uses developmentally appropriate practices that encourage children’s natural curiosity, learning through play, and hands-on approaches. Our carefully planned activities engage children every day to explore, experiment, problem solve, ask questions, and collaborate to further their thinking skills and build their love for learning.
The preschool 4-year-old program is a social/play based learning environment where the children learn through play, working, and communicating with their peers. They will be introduced to the academic skills listed below through a faith-based community that is focused on promoting a wonderful start to their journey as lifelong learners.
Religion
The curriculum we use is Pflaum. We use the Gospel Weeklies series, introducing students to the Gospel at an age appropriate level. Students will also learn multiple prayers and songs that are said each day. Pre-K students will begin to build a relationship with Jesus through our daily religion activities.
Math
Our main math goals are to be able to count one through thirty, write numbers one through twenty, or beyond if challenge needed, and learn patterns and shapes.
Science
The World of Wonders science curriculum covers three main topics: plants, animals, and weather/seasons. Science is taught in an exploratory way, where students investigate and discuss with their peers.
Social Studies
Our social studies curriculum consists of learning about the world around us. Students will learn about who lives and works in the community, different cultures around the world, and how to take care of the planet. We supplement our social studies with Scholastic My Big World magazines, covering seasonal topics.
Language Arts
For writing, students will practice forming all 26 letters correctly, and write/draw to answer questions. For reading, students will learn to comprehend and retell various types of stories, as well as use letter sounds to create short words. We spend a lot of time learning all the letters and their sounds first in order to give students the tools they will need to start reading. Specials: Spanish & PE.
