Children's Religious Formation
"Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these" (Mark 10:14).
Family FormationOnce a month on a Sunday morning from 8:30-9:45 AM families will gather for fellowship with breakfast and an engaging catechism lesson. Parents will gather for class led by Kim Kerwin and children will gather in age group classes with catechists. Parents will be learning about and discussing the topic for the month from the catechism that will be broken open with family discussion and projects at their own pace each month. Parents are the primary catechists of their children, and our homes are the domestic church we first belong to, so it is fitting that we would gather in our church community at large to discuss and support one another as we build our own domestic churches.
Sacramental Preparation for ChildrenReconciliation and Eucharist
Traditionally, children in second grade prepare for the sacraments of reconciliation and Eucharist. However, we welcome children in other grade levels as well! Children preparing for these sacraments will have additional classes, 1 per month to attend with 1 parent. These classes are scheduled on specific Sundays listed below at 11am. There is a parent meeting in the fall to discuss the sacramental preparations and requirements as we prepare children for these important sacraments. Confirmation It is highly encouraged and recommended that students preparing for Confirmation attend two years minimum (7th and 8th grade) of Religious Formation classes to prepare for this sacrament. It is highly recommended that students attend Religious Formation classes each year, as we are all lifelong learners in our faith, but in a particular way, two years of meaningful formation to prepare for Confirmation is necessary. Our Youth Ministry Coordinator, Stephanie Tierney, prepares our teens for Confirmation. Confirmation typically takes place in the spring and is offered to students who have prepared in 8th grade. Liturgy of the Word for Children (LTWC)Held from September to mid-May based on the school calendar and open to all children from preschool through second grade during the 10am Mass. Children are invited to the front of the church for a blessing after the collect prayer. The catechist will lead them to the school music room during the Liturgy of the Word portion of Mass. The scripture is presented at a developmentally appropriate level with an interactive homily and prayers. Parents are welcome to attend with their child(ren) and children will return to the church before the Liturgy of the Eucharist following the prayers of the faithful. There is no registration or fee for this ministry.
