The kindergarten program at St. Fabian Catholic School follows the standards of the Archdiocese of Detroit. The program is designed to meet the spiritual, social, emotional, academic and physical needs of the child. Special subjects, such as physical education, Spanish, music, media, computers, and art, are taught by teachers who specialize in those areas.
Religion
The children learn about Jesus and the saints in religion. They participate in daily prayer and attend Mass each Friday and on Holy Days with the whole school. We have a daily religion class and use the Promise Curriculum to learn about the Good News of the Gospel each week.
Math
We use the enVision Math 2.0 series to develop number sense, introduce 2d and 3d shapes, money, measurement, time and an introduction to addition and subtraction. Math is taught whole group, through calendar activities, in small groups and through hands-on center activities.
Science
The children are introduced to forces, weather, climate, and ecosystems through hands on experiments using Mystery Science. This inquiry-based program is utilized so that the students can learn through exploring the world around them.
Social Studies
We study maps, rules and responsibilities, holidays, identifying Michigan on a map, and what makes a good citizen in social studies. We use Studies Weekly and Let’s Find Out as our resource.
Language Arts
Our literacy program includes rhyming, phonics, phonemic awareness and letter formation through whole group instruction and center activities. The children are introduced to reading in small guided reading groups. The reading series that we use is the Wonders program.
