Advent Giving Tree
The Advent Giving Tree will be up in the Gathering Space starting the afternoon of November 21, 2021 with many suggestions for gifts or household/personal care supplies to purchase for those in need. Please return all gifts with their tags firmly affixed to the gifts, to the bins near the Giving Tree. Please return the gifts for JOM by December 10th, Covenant House, St. Christine’s, CARES, St. Dominic’s and Vista Maria by Sunday, December 12th. We are helping the following organizations:
JOM – JAIL and OUTREACH MINISTRY – JOM is a ministry of service to our offenders, Survivors, and Families of both. They provide hope and healing through an approach to the total person that encompasses quality care, attention to individual spirituality, emotional wellbeing and human dignity. They are asking for our prayers. The tags for families are GREEN CHRISTMAS TREES. COVENANT HOUSE - Covenant House builds a bridge to hope for young people facing homelessness and survivors of trafficking through unconditional love, absolute respect, and relentless support. Our doors are open 24/7 in 31 cities across six countries and our high-quality programs are designed to empower young people to rise and overcome adversity, today and in the future. This year they are looking for hoodies. Their tags are the white and red candy canes. ST. CHRISTINE’S SOUP KITCHEN - Also known as St. Christine’s Christian Services is committed to serving our neighbors in the city of Detroit. They assist those who come to their door with respect and dignity. With the help of god and generosity of others, they continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus. They are working on getting a new freezer, the cost: $30,000. Close to reaching this goal, they are asking us to help stock it. Gift cards for Costco and Gordon Foods will help to fill their freezer and pantry. Their tag is the yellow star. CARES – Community Action Resources Empowerment Services – offers support to families in our area that are in need or have limited access to everyday necessities due to financial needs or family instability. CARES is asking us to help fill the pantry! They are looking for Boxes of Cereal, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Diapers and wipes, Dish Soap, Laundry Detergent, Nutritional Bars. This is a great way to share with your kids how everyone has certain needs. The tag for this one is the orange Manger. ST. DOMINIC’S -St. Dominic’s Outreach Center is committed to serve the homeless, disabled and working poor of our community who are in need. They respond to the teachings of Jesu by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and welcoming anyone who is seeking guidance or assistance. They are looking for items for all ages. They have the RED ORNAMENTS. VISTA MARIA - is a residential center for girls/young ladies ages 11-24 and a foster care program for boys ages 3-18.
