Family Life
Kindergarten-Grade 5, Benziger

The Benziger Family Life program is creative, comprehensive, and Catholic. Forming Christian character and virtue is at the heart of the family life program. The program supports parents and families in raising responsible, morally aware children, something that becomes increasingly more important each year. The Family Life program encourages children to develop Christian values and an appreciation for God’s gift of life. It offers clear practical information on human growth and sexuality, information that is both age and grade level appropriate. Students gain a basic understanding of gender identity, puberty/adolescence, and human reproduction. Important contemporary issues are explored.

All lessons correlate to the CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH and the U.S. CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ HUMAN SEXUALITY: A CATHOLIC PERSPECTIVE FOR EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING. Benziger Family Life texts all bear the ‘imprimatur.’

Family Life K introduces the children to God’s gifts of self, family and community, and stresses the unconditional love that comes from being part of God’s family.

Family Life 1 stresses the importance of participation in family life and relationship skills such as sharing, helping, and forgiving.

Family Life 2 explores the sacramental aspect of family life and helps children develop conflict resolution and outreach skills along with health and safety habits.

Family Life 3 helps students appreciate God’s gift of life and understand their own gifts and responsibilities toward creation…stewardship.

Family Life 4 focuses on growing in God’s love and explores what happens as students mature in body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Family Life 5 discusses the importance of marriage as the context for new life and helps students develop skills for honest and respectful friendships.
