Greetings to all at St. Fabian Catholic Church and School!
I am both thrilled and honored to become the next principal at St. Fabian Catholic School. I know a great deal of hard work and prayer was involved throughout the St. Fabian community toward the effort to select a new principal, especially by the search committee. I am determined to provide the very best of my knowledge, skills, abilities, and faith to the school’s community, and especially to its students.
My career in education began as a permanent substitute teacher in St. Johns, MI, after I graduated from Michigan State University. The following year, I accepted a teaching position with St. Pius School in Southgate, MI, a school I attended as an elementary school student, as a math, science, and literature teacher. During the eleven years I taught in St. Pius, I earned a Master of Arts degree in English Education from Wayne State University.
In 1994, I began teaching math, science, and literature in St. Regis Catholic School in Bloomfield Hills, MI. I earned an Education Specialist certificate in Instructional Technology in 1996 from Wayne State University, and I assumed the role of interim principal during the 2003/2004 school year.
I taught 7th and 8th grade math, pre-algebra, and algebra at All Saints Catholic School in Canton, MI, I have adult education experience with Woodhaven Community Education, Woodhaven, MI, and additional graduate credits in gifted/talented education and experience in that area as a teacher in Gulfview Middle School in Naples, FL.
For the last two years, I have been principal at St. Mary Catholic School in Pinckney, MI, and although I had an enriching, productive, and rewarding experience at St. Mary, I am very much looking forward to working with all of you at St. Fabian to benefit your students, the community’s most precious members.
I have been blessed to know and love my wife, Lynda, whom I first met thirty-seven years ago (amazing!) and to whom I will have been married thirty-one years this coming August. We have two wonderful children, Kevin and Laura, both married with families of their own. When I’m not in the role of educator, I enjoy reading, sports, gardening, and music.
During the month of July, I can be reached via email at: jgilboe@stfabian.org, and beginning on August 3, I will be available in the school office with the exception of August 4, 5, 6, 10, and 11, due to principal meetings scheduled by the Archdiocese of Detroit.
I look forward to meeting with all of you soon!
John Gilboe
