Admission Policy:
An essential criterion for admission is the informed
acceptance by the student and parents of the fact that the school is
Catholic in philosophy and practice. All students must participate
in the religious education courses offered for their grade level,
participate in the worshipping community while in school, and agree
to act in a manner consistent with Christian values.
Parents/guardians are expected to cooperate with all administrative
and educational policies of the school. Parents/guardians who do not
fully cooperate and/or who are disruptive in their actions to such
will be asked to withdraw their children from school.
St. Fabian School respects the dignity of all
students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, national
origin, sex or disability unrelated to the student's ability to
participate in the school's program or other legally protected
status.
Admission priority is:
-
Currently enrolled students who have met the
previous years' financial obligations. Siblings of currently enrolled students
dependent on available classroom space.
-
Children of registered, contributing and
participating members of St. Fabian Parish.
-
Children of families registered in another
Catholic parish that does not have a school for a specific age
or cannot accept because of large enrollment.
-
Non-Catholics who qualify and agree to conform
to the school's religious instruction and policies.
Acceptance of students for admission or re-admission
will be judged individually on the basis of past academic and
citizenship records. Admission may be denied individuals for any
reason deemed to be inappropriate by school or parish authorities,
including but not limited to the following:
-
Students with past disciplinary or academic
problems;
-
Students who require special services;
-
Students whose families fail to meet financial
responsibilities to the school or parish
-
Students who leave the school and reapply.
Children admitted to St. Fabian School kindergarten
must be five years old by December 1st of the enrolling year and
must take the Kindergarten Readiness Test administered in March of the enrolling year by the St. Fabian School kindergarten
teachers. Children admitted to first grade must be six years old by
December 1st of the enrolling year. There are no exceptions to this
policy.
St. Fabian School's curriculum is geared to
the average to the above average students. There are no programs for
gifted, remedial, or special needs students.
At the discretion of the principal, an admissions
test in math and reading may be administered to each new
student entering grades 2 through 8 prior to acceptance. Acceptance
of new students will not be final until all school records are
received and verified. All new students will be on probation
academically and behaviorally for the first quarter.
Acceptance of new students will not be final until

St. Fabian Kindergarten Program:
St. Fabian School offers only a full-day kindergarten program. Our
philosophy is that each kindergartener is a unique individual. We
provide experiences aimed at guiding the social, emotional,
intellectual, religious and physical development of each child.
The goals of the St. Fabian Kindergarten Program
are:
-
To provide a happy introduction to school life.
-
To make the transition from home to school a
smooth and satisfactory one.
-
To foster independent and responsible behaviors.
-
To provide enriched experiences and incorporate
those experiences that provide for early Christian formation.
-
To provide many opportunities for language
experiences.
-
To expand the child's everyday awareness and
powers of observation.
-
To simulate and foster creativity.
-
To provide an informal atmosphere conducive to
readiness for learning and the desire to learn.
-
To foster the development of a feeling of
self-worth.
-
To provide opportunities for success and
accomplishment.
-
To provide for growth in all areas of
development.
The Farmington School District provides bus
transportation to and from school for students who live in the
district.
Tuition Assistance:
The Archdiocese of Detroit offers tuition assistance
through the Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Grants program. The
elementary grant is $600 per student. Private School Aid Service (PSAS)
applications are mailed to pastors of Archdiocesan parishes. Because
the pastor must sign each form indicating that the person applying
is indeed registered and a participating member of the parish,
families requesting an application form can obtain them from the
parish office, not the school office. Each family applying for a
tuition grant is to complete the application form which has been
signed by the pastor, include the required documents and a check for
$16.50 and mail to the PSAS processing center. Families applying for
Archdiocesan tuition assistance will be notified whether or not they
have received grants by early July.
