On Saturday, April 1st, ladies from our St. Fabian L.I.F.T. hosted an exercise and craft party for the women and children at HAVEN. HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. The current residents of the shelter were invited to come and join us for the afternoon. As they arrived, they were given either a duffle bag or tote bag and allowed to ‘shop’ through our area of donations. Thank you to everyone who donated; it was such a wonderful surprise for the families! For the ladies, we had a large selection of hand and body creams, make-up, nail polishes and manicure kits, scarves, make-up bags, candles and fun items like adult coloring books. For the children, we had stuffed animals, balls and games, building kits, craft sets and small toys. We were also able to bring other donations that will be sent out with the families as they settle into new homes –including sheet sets, baby bottles and supplies, toiletries for adults and kids and baby formula.
Once the guests selected their items, the ladies could choose to make jewelry at the jewelry table or paint their nails at the manicure station. The kids had lots of crafts and toys to play with, and healthy snacks and drinks were provided. After an hour, we divided the room and started the exercise classes. Most of the women participated in the PIYO class (pilates and yoga) and they all said what a great workout it was. The children who ranged in age from 2-10 were lead through a children’s yoga class complete with sunglasses, feathers, tunnels and a soccer ball to take home after.
When the classes were done, we raffled off our larger prizes and finished up any jewelry projects. The ladies were given the manicure supplies to take and chose from the remaining items in the shopping area. There was something for everyone and our L.I.F.T. team enjoyed providing a day of fun for the residents. Thanks again to everyone who helped make this great day possible!
